This is the interior of my church which had 8 feet of water after
Katrina. My wedding was the first event in the church since August 2005.
Saturday, exactly one week before the wedding, volunteers began sweeping and
power washing the first floor of the building. On Sunday, they sanitized the
building and removed sheetrock. On Monday they began painting the interior
white. Wednesday they were finished painting the exterior walls
and began washing windows and painting the frames. I visited a local
plant gallery and the owner agreed to loan me enough plants to create
a garden in the church. On Thursday volunteers painted the ironwork
and sign outside the church as well as the woodwork around the
windows. Early that morning I drew a floorplan for the seating and
plant arrangement and took it to the owner of the plant gallery. We agreed
that I'd have volunteers drive there to pick up plants and would arrange for
their return after the wedding. So on Friday we picked out the plants, drove
them to the church. We rented chairs for the ceremony which were also
delivered on Friday. So we set up the chairs and arranged plants, then held
the rehearsal on Friday afternoon. This photo and the next are of how the
church turned out. |
